The Italian Abroad Wine Blog is a wine blog and diary where I share my thoughts, primarily about Italian wine and food, but also on wine, food, and travel in general. I founded Italyabroad.com in 2003 and have been living abroad for over 20 years. Coming from an Italian winemaking family, I was introduced to wine at a very early age. While my roots are in Italian wine, I appreciate and enjoy good wine from all over the world, alongside great food and the joys of travel. My posts often weave these passions together.
To help you better understand Italian wines, we've created a series of Italian wine regions maps that show DOC and DOCG wines, their origins and the grapes they are made of, including your favorite Italian wines. I’ve also written a post on the Italian wine appellation system explaining and demystifying the Italian wine classification system and what it really means for wine lovers and enthusiasts.
Additionally, I host a YouTube channel , where you can watch me taste some of our wines and answer your questions about Italian wines and grapes. From the meaning of DOC to what makes an orange wine, we cover it all.
I hope you enjoy reading this wine blog! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Salute
Andrea
Not the Euro, Italy and England are still playing and best of luck to both teams, not a friendly football match either; our wines and food have won plenty of awards and competitions and got great scores, still there is no mention on their pages. Another great year for our wines and food, yes, even our food wins awards but you don’t see them mentioned on their descriptions. If you follow my blog and have read my previous post on awards and competitions you would, by now, know that we taste and rate every single product we import and only import the ones we love. You will also know that we never import anything because of someone else’s score and do not list our products’ awards on their pages
I never bought a bottle of wine because of its points or awards, not even when I first started drinking wine, I was never attracted to the shiny medal, always liked to discover hidden treasures, it makes you proud, and I took with me this philosophy when I started Italyabroad.com. Italyabroad.com is all about importing wines, initially I then we as the team grew, liked and never because of their points or awards
“Hi Guys, just a little message, I bought some sublime brunello from you 8 years ago or so, still in my cellar, tonight I found one you had recommended me years ago. So opened it and it’s beautiful! 8 years in my wine cooler”. So when you wonder what are the best Italian wines, always remember, that there are several sources and they change every year.
Yesterday, when having a shower, I read on the label of the shower gel that it had been tested on the people making it. Whilst, I am sure, it is not the only shower gel being used, more than tested, by the people making it, it is the first one actually saying it.
In the UK market, a relatively young market, they are important; they help in selling wine, especially supermarkets' wines where there is no advice and wines are sold by the attractiveness of the label, their price or the review or award received.
