Why we love it

Appassimento style wines are not easy to make, read Andrea’s post on the subject, too often they are unbalanced, overly sweet, almost liquid marmalades.

Roberto Scubla's appassimento is an amazing red wine, full bodied, with a complex nose with wild berries, roses and tobacco, beautifully balanced, aromatic, with a pleasant acidity, with tons of black cherry on the palate. Soft, smooth, a great appassimento wine.

This appassimento wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Refosco del Peduncolo Rosso, aged in small French barriques and bigger barrels for about 10 months before being left to age in steel tanks for another year.

Finally a proper appassimento wine for all lovers of the style, an ideal accompaniment for stews, fried food and semi-aged cheeses or dark chocolate, delicious...

The artisan who made it

Roberto Scubla is an amazing person who is very passionate about his wines. He took a big risk and left a safe job in the bank for an uncertain future amongst the vines and he has truly succeeded in what he was trying to achieve. His winery and vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali area of Friuli, north east of Italy, near the Slovenian border, where he grows native grapes like the Friulano and Verduzzo but also grapes that have found an ideal environment in Friuli such as the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon or the Sauvignon and all his wines have plenty of character and elegance.
