Why we love it
Hailing from the prestigious Roero DOCG in Piedmont, Roero Arneis is one of Italy’s most distinguished white wines. Obtained exclusively from the native Arneis grape, it’s celebrated for its delicate floral bouquet, vibrant acidity, and signature minerality, qualities that have earned it a place among Italy’s finest whites. Often dubbed “the other white grape of Piedmont,” Arneis offers a distinctive alternative to the better-known Cortese that produced the Gavi.
This expressive wine captivates the senses with aromas of white flowers, ripe pear, and stone fruit. On the palate, it strikes a perfect balance: full-bodied yet crisp, with lively acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish that underscores its refined character.
Roero Arneis is a remarkably versatile wine, pairing beautifully with everything from light appetizers and seafood to creamy risottos and delicate white meats. Its fresh, elegant profile makes it an ideal choice for both everyday meals and celebratory occasions.
The artisan who made it
The I Moncalvi winery is now in the hands of Mauro, the current generation, who has inherited not only the family tradition but also a deep passion for winemaking. Mauro is fully dedicated to crafting exceptional wines, putting great care into every step of the process to ensure that each bottle reflects the unique qualities of the land and the grapes he cultivates.
The winery’s vineyards are located in the heart of the prestigious Gavi appellation, in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont. They primarily consist of Cortese grapes, which are used to produce the renowned Gavi wine, but also include small plantings of Barbera and Dolcetto. The vines, ranging in age from twenty to fifty years old, benefit from the region’s exceptional terroir, which contributes to the production of high quality wines with distinctive character.
Mauro's commitment to excellence is evident in his meticulous grape selection process. He insists on using only the best grapes for his wines, ensuring that each vintage meets his standards. Any grapes that do not meet his quality threshold are sold to nearby wineries, a testament to his unwavering dedication to producing only the best wines possible. Through his hard work, passion, and respect for tradition, Mauro continues to uphold and enhance the reputation of I Moncalvi, creating wines that stand out in the Gavi region.
