Why we love it
Roero Arneis is a refined white wine from the Roero DOCG appellation in Piedmont. Made exclusively from the native Arneis grape variety, this wine is known for its delicate floral aromatics, crisp acidity, and mineral-laced elegance. Often referred to as “the other white of Piedmont,” Roero Arneis offers a unique alternative to the region’s more famous Cortese-based Gavi.
Aromatically expressive, Roero Arneis entices with notes of white flowers, ripe pear, peach, and subtle hints of citrus. On the palate, it delivers a harmonious combination of richness and freshness, medium to full-bodied with a vibrant acidity and a refined, mineral-driven finish.
Perfectly suited for food pairing, Roero Arneis complements a wide range of dishes, from light seafood and vegetable-based starters to creamy risottos, poultry, and delicate white meats. Its freshness and finesse make it a standout choice for both casual dining and elegant occasions.
The artisan who made it
The I Moncalvi winery is now in the hands of Mauro, the current generation, who has inherited not only the family tradition but also a deep passion for winemaking. Mauro is fully dedicated to crafting exceptional wines, putting great care into every step of the process to ensure that each bottle reflects the unique qualities of the land and the grapes he cultivates.
The winery’s vineyards are located in the heart of the prestigious Gavi appellation, in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont. They primarily consist of Cortese grapes, which are used to produce the renowned Gavi wine, but also include small plantings of Barbera and Dolcetto. The vines, ranging in age from twenty to fifty years old, benefit from the region’s exceptional terroir, which contributes to the production of high quality wines with distinctive character.
Mauro's commitment to excellence is evident in his meticulous grape selection process. He insists on using only the best grapes for his wines, ensuring that each vintage meets his standards. Any grapes that do not meet his quality threshold are sold to nearby wineries, a testament to his unwavering dedication to producing only the best wines possible. Through his hard work, passion, and respect for tradition, Mauro continues to uphold and enhance the reputation of I Moncalvi, creating wines that stand out in the Gavi region.
