Why we love it

Pecorino is a native Italian white grape variety that has experienced a remarkable renaissance in recent years. Once forgotten and left to over-ripen on the vines or used only in blends, Pecorino is now enjoying renewed popularity and is widely cultivated across Abruzzo, Marche, and Lazio. In Abruzzo, it has nearly overtaken Trebbiano d'Abruzzo as the region’s flagship white wine.

This single-vineyard Pecorino is obtained from manually harvested grapes grown on the oldest vines in the prestigious DOCG Colli Teramani appellation area, nestled on the hills facing the Adriatic Sea. A superior expression of Pecorino, this wine stands out for its fruity, aromatic nose, and its vibrant yet elegant and delicate palate. Crisp, lively, and mineral-driven, it offers exceptional structure and depth.

Perfectly suited to pasta dishes, white meats, and medium-aged cheeses, this Pecorino is a refined white wine that elevates any meal - and showcases the best of Abruzzo’s winemaking tradition.

The artisan who made it

Fattoria Nicodemi is a winery rich in history and tradition, located in Notaresco, at the heart of the prestigious Colline Teramane DOCG appellation in Abruzzo. Nestled at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, the vineyards benefit from a truly exceptional microclimate. Protected by the imposing Gran Sasso mountain on one side and situated just 10 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea on the other, the vines thrive in an environment that provides the perfect balance of sunshine, ventilation, and temperature variation, key factors in producing wines of outstanding quality and character.

The winery is committed to organic farming, embracing sustainable practices that respect both the land and the vines. They refrain from using chemical herbicides, pesticides, or artificial fertilizers, ensuring that their wines express the purity of their terroir without unnecessary intervention. This dedication to natural viticulture reflects their deep respect for the environment and their commitment to producing wines that are as authentic as they are exceptional.

Fattoria Nicodemi is more than just a winery - it is the story of a family’s passion and dedication to winemaking. The estate is now in the hands of siblings Alessandro and Elena, who took over the business in 2000 following in the footsteps of their father, who had, in turn, continued the legacy of their grandfather. For Alessandro and Elena, Nicodemi is not just a name; it is a connection to their roots, a reflection of their family’s hard work, and a testament to their commitment to crafting outstanding wines that honor their heritage.

Their philosophy is deeply rooted in tradition while embracing modern winemaking techniques to enhance quality without compromising authenticity. They firmly believe that great wine is made in the vineyards, shaped by nature, with their role being to carefully guide the process and make the best possible use of what the land generously provides. Each bottle they produce is a proud expression of the unique terroir of Colline Teramane area, carrying the essence of the land, the climate, and the passion that runs through generations of their family.
