Why we love it

Ranked among the top Italian white wines, Pomedes holds a special place in our collection - and in our hearts. One of the very first wines we imported, we’ve proudly brought Pomedes to wine lovers for over 20 years. This exceptional white wine has earned countless accolades, from the prestigious Tre Bicchieri (3 Glasses) by Gambero Rosso to top scores across major wine guides. But more than just awards, Pomedes is, at its core, a white wine of remarkable quality, one we fell in love with from the very first sniff.

Labelled as Colli Orientali del Friuli, Pomedes is a refined blend of Pinot Bianco, Friulano, and Riesling. Fermented and aged in new French barriques, this lightly oaked white wine offers a rich, elegant profile with layered aromas of ripe fruit, subtle vanilla, and a delicate touch of oak that enhances, rather than overpowers, its natural aromatic complexity.

Expect a full-bodied, powerful white wine with a long-lasting, memorable finish. The oak aging brings depth and finesse, making this wine a standout choice for lovers of premium white wines that can confidently rival even the best French whites.

The wine takes its name from Pomedes, a mountain refuge in the Alps, where winemaker Roberto Scubla and a friend once sought shelter during a storm. It was during that moment of pause, waiting for the storm to pass, that the vision for this wine was born.

Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or looking to discover one of Italy’s finest white wines, Pomedes delivers a truly unforgettable experience in every glass.

The artisan who made it

Roberto Scubla is a visionary winemaker from Friuli Venezia Giulia, a distinguished name in the Italian wine industry, celebrated for his bold vision, unwavering passion, and commitment to crafting some of the finest wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia. Nestled in the scenic hills of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, near Italy’s northeastern border with Slovenia, Scubla Winery thrives in one of the country’s premier winemaking regions. This unique area is renowned for its diverse terroir, mineral-rich soils, and ideal microclimate, perfect for growing both native and international grape varieties.

Roberto Scubla grow native Friulian grapes such as Friulano and Verduzzo but also international such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc that have found a home in the region, preserving the rich traditions of viticulture. Roberto Scubla produces critically acclaimed wines from combining innovation with authenticity to create world-class wines that reflect the essence of the region.

Every bottle of Scubla wine is a testament to Roberto’s hands-on approach and meticulous attention to detail. Elegance and complexity with or without food this wine has it all in abundance. It went particularly well with a sea food and scallops starter and was equally at home with a much more earthy chicken and mushroom dish. A wine with Burgundian qualities which was also extremely enjoyable on its own. i am sure i will be back for more
