Why we love it

A great Merlot wine from an award winning producer that doesn't need any introduction, a great red wine to drink and enjoy.

A Merlot wine made with 100% Merlot hand picked grapes from a very low yielding vineyard located in the Colli Orientali area, Friuli Venezia Giulia, possibly the Italian region that produces the best examples of Merlot, where the grape has found its ideal terroir, it there was a "supermerlot" category, this wine will belong to it. This is not your easy to drink, fruity Merlot wine.

The Merlot grape vinified on its own, often produces easy to drink one dimension wines, and need the help of other grapes, classic example is the Bordeaux blend, or wood ageing, to produce outstanding wines and winemakers that believe on the grape, that are happy to put it the work.

This Merlot wine, aged in new French oak for 12 months to add complexity and longevity to the wine, has a nose bursting with roses and tobacco aromas and underlying hints of vanilla, in the mouth is harmonic, elegant, smooth, velvety and with a long aftertaste. It can be drunk now and cellared and enjoyed later.

The artisan who made it

Roberto Scubla is an amazing person who is very passionate about his wines. He took a big risk and left a safe job in the bank for an uncertain future amongst the vines and he has truly succeeded in what he was trying to achieve. His winery and vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali area of Friuli, north east of Italy, near the Slovenian border, where he grows native grapes like the Friulano and Verduzzo but also grapes that have found an ideal environment in Friuli such as the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon or the Sauvignon and all his wines have plenty of character and elegance.
