Why we love it

A great Merlot wine from a fantastic producer , a great Merlot wine to sip and enjoy.

This Merlot wine, made from 100% Merlot grapes from a very low yielding vineyard located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, possibly the Italian region that produces the best examples and where the grape has found its ideal terroir, belongs to the category of Merlot that are much more than an easy to drink, fruity red wine.

Too often Merlot wine is associated to an easy to drink, fruity red wine, but with the help of other grapes, classic example is the Bordeaux blend, or wood ageing, can produce outstanding wines.

This Merlot, aged in new French oak for 12 months to add complexity and longevity to the wine, has a nose bursting with roses and tobacco aromas and underlying hints of vanilla, in the mouth is harmonic, elegant, smooth, velvety and with a long aftertaste.

The artisan who made it

Roberto Scubla is an amazing person who is very passionate about his wines. He took a big risk and left a safe job in the bank for an uncertain future amongst the vines and he has truly succeeded in what he was trying to achieve. His winery and vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali area of Friuli, north east of Italy, near the Slovenian border, where he grows native grapes like the Friulano and Verduzzo but also grapes that have found an ideal environment in Friuli such as the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon or the Sauvignon and all his wines have plenty of character and elegance.
