Why we love it

Too often Merlot is associated to an easy to drink, fruity red wine., to produce great wine the Merlot grape needs help because of its characteristics, and the help is either given by other grapes, classic example is the Bordeaux wine, or wood ageing.

This Merlot made from 100% Merlot grapes from a very low yielding vineyard located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, possibly the region that produce the best examples and where the grape has found its ideal terroir, belongs to the category of Merlot that are much more than an easy to drink, fruity red wine.

This Merlot, aged in new French oak for 12 months to add complexity and longevity to the wine, has a nose bursting with roses and tobacco aromas and underlying hints of vanilla, in the mouth is harmonic, elegant, smooth, velvety and with a long aftertaste. A great Merlot wine to sip and enjoy.

The artisan who made it

Roberto Scubla is an amazing person who is very passionate about his wines. He took a big risk and left a safe job in the bank for an uncertain future amongst the vines and he has truly succeeded in what he was trying to achieve. His winery and vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali area of Friuli, north east of Italy, near the Slovenian border, where he grows native grapes like the Friulano and Verduzzo but also grapes that have found an ideal environment in Friuli such as the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon or the Sauvignon and all his wines have plenty of character and elegance.
