Made from selected, hand picked Cortese grapes from a single, old vineyard in the heart of the Gavi appellation, Rovereto, this is a superb Gavi di Gavi, a step above the others, with its elegance, finesse, structure and mineral finish. This Gavi di Gavi has a complex fruity nose with recognisable apple hints, fresh, refreshing. On the palate is full with a great structure, perfectly balanced and with a long mineral finish, this is a wine to enjoy.
This single vineyards Gavi di Gavi also shows the potential of the Cortese grape and the importance of the “terroir”, healthy grapes in the right place and with a skilled winemaker can produce great wines that can stand time and Gavi is not exception. The artisan who made it
The I Moncalvi winery is now run by Mauro, the current generation, and Mauro is very passionate about his wines. The vineyards, mainly Cortese used to make Gavi but also a bit of Barbera and Dolcetto, are located in the heart of the Gavi area, in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont, and are between twenty and fifty years old and together with the location, produce wonderful, high quality wines different from the others in the area. Mauro is so devoted to making the best wines he can, that he only uses the very best grapes to produce them, the remaining are usually sold to nearby wineries.
