Why we love it
Made only in the best vintages, when the Nebbiolo grapes are at their best, from the oldest vines in the Cru Fossati vineyard in the La Morra area, in the town of Barolo in a very limited quantity, this Barolo Riserva is aged for at least 5 years in the winery’s cellar before being released. The result is a very complex wine, that can be put aside in the cellar and forgotten or drunk now, after plenty of decanting.
This Barolo Riserva has a rich, overwhelming, nose, with violet and black fruit hints. In the mouth is silky, full, balanced with firm tannins, amazing.
Perfect to accompany roasted meat or games or just to be sipped over very matured cheese
The artisan who made it
Pietro Balocco decided to start bottling his own wine, the family had been growing and selling grapes for more than a century, only recently and now Federico, the young and talented son/wine maker, has decided to take the Collina San Ponzio winery where it really belongs, amongst the top Piedmont producers. Their Nebbiolo vineyards used in the production of the Barolo, are located in La Morra, one of the best areas for Barolo, but also grow other Piedmont native grapes such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Roero and Favorita that then bottle.
