Why we love it

Sambuca is another traditional and famous Italian liqueur that everyone loves with the authentic recipe requiring only four ingredients: anise stars, neutral spirit, sugar and pure water. The Morelli’s Sambuca follows an old recipe passed down from generation to generation at the distillery in Tuscany, near Pisa and their Sambuca doesn’t use any artificial flavouring and has an alcohol content of 40%. Many of the commercial and cheaper sambuca have a much lower alcohol content and use artificial flavourings and very sweet, the sugar is used to cover the lack of flavour.

Sambuca is normally served at the end of the meal, the legend says that it was served with three coffee beans in the glass - health, happiness and prosperity - and then set on fire. Nowadays Sambuca is drunk on its own, either very cold or with some ice cubes after the coffee or added to the coffee, in Italy and Italian this version is called “caffe corretto”.

In the last few years, due to the growth of the cocktails’ trend, and the quest for new ingredients, Sambuca has become a very hot and versatile ingredient. Sambuca also feature in many Italian food recipes, from desserts to main courses, for ideas visit our authentic recipe section.

If you love Sambuca, it doesn’t get any better than this, and it comes in a big 1L bottle.
