Passerina is an ancient native grape of Abruzzo, also cultivated in neighbouring regions Marche and Lazio. Although it has been part of Italy’s viticultural heritage for centuries, it was only rediscovered and brought back into production over the past 10–15 years.
The name Passerina comes from the Italian word for sparrow (passero), as these small birds are particularly fond of eating its grapes. Today, Passerina wines made from vineyards along the Abruzzo coast perfectly capture the character of the region.
This Passerina wine is light, refreshing, and elegant, with delicate fruit notes and a subtle minerality where you can almost sense the Adriatic sea breeze. Its fresh acidity and gentle aromatics make it an excellent match for light dishes, seafood, shellfish, and aperitifs.
The artisan who made it
Donvitantonio vini is a family winery form Abruzzo, a territory with a long winemaking and culture history. After gaining wine making experience abroad and in Italy, working in some of the best wineries, both Donvitantonio’s grandsons, Antonio and Simone decided to go back home, to their roots, and take over Nonno Donvitantonio vineyards and start bottling their own grapes, until them, the grapes were sold to the local cooperatives. Antonio and Simone are the 3rd generation and their mission is to value and promote indigenous grapes.
