Why we love it

Our pesto follow the authentic and original recipe of the Ligurian pesto and as such it is a DOP (Protected Designation Origin) pesto. Made only with the best ingredients, our pesto uses plenty of DOP Genoese basil together with extra virgin olive oil, pine nuts and cheeses and not only it is perfect for a quick, tasty pasta, but pesto is also a very versatile ingredient that can be used in plenty of other recipes, to add colour or flavour, from fish to meat. Our pesto is gluten and wheat free, no need to pay extra for a gluten free version. Gran cucina pesto alla genovese is also unpasteurized or sterilized.

Supermarket's shelves are full of jars with written "pesto" on the label of different prices, but the difference is in the ingredients, from using peas or other green substitute instead of the more expensive basil to give that bright green colour, to adding gluten derivatives to give consistency. Always read the label and check the ingredients. Our pesto has only a bunch of natural ingredients.

When preparing pasta with pesto, in a small bowl, add a couple of tea spoon of pesto per person, pour some boiling water from the pasta sauce pan and add some more extra virgin olive oil and mix together. Once the pasta is ready, pour the pesto and toss adding plenty more cheese. Buonissimo

The artisan who made it

Gran Cucina has its root in a farm at the beginning of the XIX century. After buying a farm, the great grand father of the current generation started growing vegetables whilst the great grand mother started preparing local delicacies using their own grown products. Within a few years the reputation went outside the village, they started to supply nearby cities and villages. The family got bigger and so more help came.

Now, more than a century after, the same family and the same recipes are followed, using only the best local produces, including the very famous Alba truffle which is used in many products, from extra virgin olive oil to truffle honey to truffle butter.
