Why we love it

A Franciacorta rose’ ”millesimato” made from Pinot Nero grapes from a single vintage, vinified separately and left ageing on their own lees for at least 36 months, hence the word “millesimato” in the La Valle cellar in the heart of the Franciacorta wine region, and then blended. The result is an elegant Franciacorta Rose’, complex and rich, balanced, to be drunk as an aperitif with canapés or important fish dishes, such as salmon or trout.

Franciacorta, the Italian equivalent to Champagne, is a classic method sparkling with the secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle. Franciacorta is not the only classic method Italian sparkling wines, there are plenty, from appellations to wines made by individual producers, all over Italy, from north to south. Our Franciacorta Rose’ is a perfect celebration wine, from birthday to Valentines’ Day, it helps making any event memorable.

The artisan who made it

La Valle winery, owned by the Pezzola family, is located in Rodengo Saiano in the heart of the picturesque hills of Franciacorta, just a few kilometres away from the beautiful Lake Iseo and Brescia in Lombardy. The winery was founded in 1990 by Eugenio and Giulia Pezzola and is currently run by their nephew, Stefano Camilucci. The Franciacorta is the Italian alternative to Champagne and the whole area enjoys a unique and rather extraordinary microclimate where they grow Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero. In 1993, the first three thousand bottles of the millésime (a few bottles of which are still jealously guarded) were produced.

It is not often that I choose to drink a rosé - I much prefer a strong red wine. However, I was not disappointed by this delicious sparkling wine. I have never tried Franciacorta before, at least not until now, but I would definitely have it again. I found that this particular wine was quite dry, much like a good champagne, and fruity. If you want to try something a little different then I would definitely recommend this wine to you.
