Why we love it
Strascinati is a traditional pasta shape from Southern Italy, especially the regions of Basilicata and Puglia. Similar in form to orecchiette, but slightly larger and more elongated, strascinati gets its name from the Italian word “strascinare”, meaning “to drag,” which reflects the traditional method of shaping the dough by dragging it across a wooden surface to create its rustic, concave form.
This distinctive shape makes strascinati perfect for holding rich, chunky sauces, especially those based on meat, vegetables, or legumes. It’s also commonly used in regional dishes with turnip tops, mushrooms, or chickpeas, making it a wonderfully versatile pasta for hearty and authentic Italian meals.
Our artisan strascinati is crafted using only the finest Apulian flour and water, with no eggs or additives, making it suitable for vegans and vegetarians. It is slow-dried at low temperatures to preserve its flavour and ensure a satisfying al dente bite.
The artisan who made it
Forno Meridiano was founded in the heart of Ruvo di Puglia, a charming town just north of Bari, by three lifelong friends — Antonio, Giuseppe, and Vito. Forno Meridiano is their way of telling the story of Puglia through flavour - spreading the unique tastes of our land far and wide. Behind our products is more than twenty years of hands-on experience, rooted deeply in tradition and manual production. Today, that foundation supports a forward-looking journey towards modern, sustainable methods - all in the name of authentic taste.
Forno Meridiano only chooses the finest raw materials, following a fully traceable supply chain. Every ingredient is carefully sourced and handled with attention to detail - the same care that continues all the way to your table. It’s their commitment to transparency, quality, and flavour in every bite.
Taralli are one of the most iconic products of Apulian gastronomy. At Forno Meridiano, they honour this tradition while pairing it with contemporary production methods. The result is an authentic product made to the highest quality standards. It’s ancient knowledge, passed down through the centuries, brought to life in every pack.
They’ve redefined the traditional Apulian tarallo by experimenting with new shapes and using innovative flours and grains. Their mission is to merge indulgent flavours with well-being - creating a new generation of taralli that are lighter, crispier, and full of character, without compromising their roots.
