Why we love it
Made with the best, selected hand harvested native grapes, this vegan friendly Torrette wine, fermented on its lees and a short ageing in barrels, has a rich and complex nose, spicy note and hints of prunes. In the mouth it is full, structured, lively red wine with strawberry jams, prunes and a long finish.
This is the Aosta region flagship wine, the one made by every winery. Amazing.
The artisan who made it
A group of young winemakers decided to work together and this is how the La Source winery was born, with Stefano as its soul. Born to a wine expert, Stefano decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, after having worked his way through Italy, and in 2005, came back to his village to take the reins of the winery and its six hectares of vineyards where they produce wines such as Torrette, Chardonnay and Gamay. The region of Valle d’Aosta is famed for its mountains and the wine production is very small and limited but regardless of the limitations, its wines have characteristics that cannot be found anywhere else and they are definitely worth trying.

Another one of those unusual Italian wines from a country that seems to have more variety than any other. Torette seems to be almost unavailable in Britain, which is a pity as the wines from Val d'Aosta deserve to be better known. This one is medium bodied, somewhat fruity and with a nice level of acidity that makes it very good with fattier foods - in my case duck with Dauphinoise potatoes, but it would go with a great many foods without losing its character. Dryish, medium weight, some spice and good fruit and reasonably full in the mouth. Very pleasant without blowing your socks off. Italy Abroad are very good at bringing in these more unusal wines.
