Why we love it

Limoncello is one of the most famous Italian liqueurs, often associated with the Amalfi Coast even if it is produced all over Italy and it is made by infusing ripe and beautiful lemon's zest in pure alcohol and the Morelli brothers follow a recipe that has been handed down from the beginning of the 19th century, generation to generation, in the family.

This limoncello is obtained leaving the zest of fully ripe Amalfi lemons to macerate in pure alcohol for several days until the color and flavours are released, water and cane sugar are then added and the result is a Limoncello with an abv of 32%, much higher than the majority of limoncello found in supermarket shelves, that can be kept in the freezer and enjoyed very chilled because it won't freeze. Lower alcohol content not only means that the Limoncello will freeze if kept in the freezer but also a lower production cost and possibly flavouring instead of real lemon and higher sugar content.

A good limoncello is a well balanced drink, the sweetness balances the acidity of the lemons, a good limoncello should not be overly sweet and ideally made with real lemons, like this from the Morelli brothers.

Try the Limoncello Spritz for an alternative aperitif, add Prosecco and a splash of soda. Limoncello is also a very versatile ingredients for cocktails, can be drunk over ice with one of our tonics or in the kitchen, if you are a fan of tiramisu, why not try our Tiramisu al limoncello.

The artisan who made it

Under the current generation, the Liquorificio, distillery, Morelli, originally called the Antica Grapperia Toscana, has been going from strength to strength, producing liqueurs and spirits of the highest quality. The credo of this Tuscan distillery is the belief in using only the best natural ingredients for its products and using the family recipes they have used for centuries that have resulted in them winning a large number of awards, not only for their grappa, but also for their delicious Limoncello and Arancino.
