Why we love it
This is San Luciano's white wine flagship, Orum, gold in latin, their best white wine. Made with the best grapes of Vermentino, the wine undergo a light maceration on the skins and then is aged in acacia barrel to add extra complexity and give longevity to the wine.
Vermentino Orum has a very complex and elegant nose where honey and vanilla notes deriving from the ageing give slowly way to the grape characteristic fruity notes. In the mouth the wine is full, elegant, rich with a long and persistent finish. Delicious.
Vermentino Orum finds its ideal pairing in fresh cheeses, fish courses and seafood.
The artisan who made it
The generations of winemakers of the Ziantoni family are lost in time. San Luciano comes from the flourishing Roman hills of Marino where they have always made wine, white wine. In 1972, due to the urban expansion towards the countryside Ovidio Ziantoni moved from Lazio to Tuscany, purchasing the property of San Luciano, in the territory of Monte San Savino (Ar), upper Val di Chiana, a property with a small church dedicated to San Luciano from which the winery take its name.
Coming from a land with a white wine tradition to a land famous for its red wines, Ovidio decides to plant the grapes he is familiar with, the grapes he has grown with, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Grechetto e Vermentino together with the traditional Tuscan grapes, Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, and some Montepulciano. With the new generation, with Stefano and Marco, the winery grows with the addition of more vineyards and grapes, the international Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
