Why we love it

This Barolo Riserva is made only in the best vintages and only from the oldest vines in the Cru Fossati vineyard in the La Morra area, in the town of Barolo, in a very limited quantity. The harvesting is done manually and the grapes, harvested and put in a small box, are taken straight to the winery where the grapes are pressed and the wine is made, this Barolo Riserva is aged for at least 5 years in the winery’s cellar before being released. The result is a very complex Barolo, that can be put aside in the cellar and forgotten or drunk now, after hours of decanting

This Barolo Riserva has a rich, overwhelming, nose, with violet and black fruit hints. In the mouth is silky, full, balanced with firm tannins, amazing.

This Barolo Riserva is the perfect wine to accompany roasted meat and game or just to be sipped on its own or over some mature cheese. For more information on the Barolo wine and how it is made click here.

The artisan who made it

Collina San Ponzio started a century ago, they had until Pietro Balocco, the third generation, took over, been selling their own wine and grape to some of the best Piedmont producers. Only with Pietro and now Federico is son, a very young and talented wine maker, have decided to bottle their own wines and are creating some of the most interesting Piedmont wines, clean, with a classic approach.

Their production is very limited, but their vineyards are scattered in some of the most vocated area, a lot of work for them, but great wines for us to enjoy. Their Nebbiolo vineyards used in the making of their Barolos, are located in La Morra, one of the best areas for Barolo. We love their wines and we love them, they are as passionate as we are.
