And the Godiolo wines are very good, certainly better than the £12 bottle of wine I bought blind from a high street wine merchant, based on the wine column in a weekend paper about a particular type of grape. I am sure the grape produces good wines but to pick a bottle based on price alone does not always work. In this case it was very underwhelming compared to the flavours and smells from the Godiolo wine. Of course it is not possible to visit the vineyards of every wine one buys and it pays to rely on the knowledge and experience of someone like Andrea - so far I have not been disappointed.

When we got to the vineyard on the slopes below Montepulciano we were surprised and delighted to be able to take part in the harvesting so, armed with secateurs, we set to picking the grapes alongside the professionals. Taking an active part was so much better than simply being shown the harvesting and you appreciated much more the hard work that goes into a bottle of good wine.
