Lombardy
It is the most populous and richest region in the country and one of the richest in the whole of Europe. Lombardy is particularly well known for its sparkling wines made in the Franciacorta and Oltrepò Pavese areas.
Lombardy also produces red, white and rosé wines made from a variety of local and international grapes. The region annually produces over 28 million gallons of wine.
The climate is varied due to the diverse terrain but is generally considered a cool continental climate, it is influenced by several geographic features that control the climate and terroir of the land.
