.. or something like that. I was really surprised when I read that advice on the back label of a bottle of wine, it was an Italian pinot grigio but there was the whole Italian range, the Mondelli range, on offer from Sainsbury, which had a “normal” price of £9.99 but was on offer at only £4.99. This was my first and only time and I do see and taste plenty of wines from all over the world, not just Italian.

Wine to be consumed within 6 months of purchase? Why? Because after that time, due to the poor quality of it, there is no flavour left? And again, purchase, what the bottler meant with purchase? Are they assuming that the wine will leave the shelves as soon as it bottled and therefore, it has to be interpreted “within 6 months” of the bottling and in this case, it would be already off because 6 months have passed or simply, they dont trust consumers when storing their wines and therefore they are trying to educate us. I dont think is the last explanation, because if a wine is badly stored, it goes off very quickly, I think the wine is of poor quality and therefore has to be consumed quickly to avoid losing all its flavours and I will invite anyone who has had it to post here their comments and whether I am right or wrong.

This episode to me, at least, proves, once again, that supermarket offers are made to made us to believe that we are getting a bargain when in reality we are not, because for this wine, simply reading the label, I dont think the real price is more than £4 and I am sure that after the offer period ends, it will go back, if it will, on the shelves at the “discounted” price.
